Best ways to burn belly fat

- SAM WOOD

“SAM, how do I get rid of my belly fat?” is one of the most common questions I get asked.

There’s no doubt that having a flat tummy or rock-hard abs is the dream for many of us. Of course, when it comes to our core, it’s not just about how we look. Building our core strength helps us with posture, prevention of injury and should be a key area of focus in our training.

So with this in mind, here are the best five moves to help you strengthen, tone and shred your core.

1. Burpees

When you’re trying to blast away the flab that’s surrounding your tummy you need to work as many muscles as possible. Burpees have a reputation for a reason – they’re a challenging, fast-paced movement that’s awesome for hitting every muscle from head to toe. The tip here is to keep up the pace but at a rate that you can maintain for 30 reps – and most importantly, remember to breathe.

2. Diagonal mountain climbers

Another great one for an all-over body burn, diagonal mountain climbers will not only help tone your abs but help burn overall fat. Start in a push-up position and alternate your knees towards your opposite elbow on a 45-degree angle. Focus on switching on your abs in these ones and you’ll start to feel a deep burn in your core.

3. Russian twists

Russian twists will challenge your entire core and they’ll really put your obliques to work. Grab a medicine ball, dumbbell, weights or anything lying around the house. The key here is to focus on the twisting motion, pulling in your lower abs while you move the weight from side to side.

4. Leg lowers

They may seem easy at first but leg lowers are one of the best for burning stubborn tummy fat and you’ll be feeling sore in your core in no time. Focus on slowly lowering one leg at a time towards the ground while making sure your lower back doesn’t lift off the ground.

5. Side plank hip dips

One of the best ones for blasting tummy fat, these are also great for your posture and strengthening your obliques. In a side plank position, dip your hips down towards the floor and back up without rotating your body.

Remember, you can train around the clock but you’ll burn the most tummy fat if you keep your nutrition in check too.
