On Windy Hill turbine fire

-

There’s an excellent reason why the Windy Hill turbine fire will cause “no interruption to electricity supply” (CP, 15/11). On calm nights all of Queensland, and parts of NSW, VIC and SA, are powered by abundant clean coal (with a dash of gas and hydro). Wind and solar aren’t necessary. Mic, Cairns The usual critics of wind farms are quick to jump on the bandwagon when fire forced wind farm halt (CP, 15/11). They conveniently forget coal mine and power station fires. Look at the fires in California. They are the inconvenient truth of climate change. John, Mooroobool It’s time for a levy of say 50c to be added to the purchase of fast food. I see so many paper bags thrown from cars onto the road. This levy could be paid to local councils or certain charities to collect the rubbish. GTHO, Manunda For all the people who are opting out of My Health records. Are you opting out of your Centrelink payment/your pensions/ child care payment? Are you not going to do your next tax return online so you can get a cash return? They have more important details than if you have hemorrhoids. Get over it. The same security is protecting all government records. It’s beyond me that you will take government money, but you won’t allow doctors to treat you at a quicker pace. Kenneth, Cairns I hope that Jacinda Ardern will plant a NZ flag on the Esplanade to annex us while she’s in Cairns. It worked for Captain Cook. Brynn, Manunda Harry Bruce (CP, 15/11) nails it again. His twitcher’s guide lists the galah that thought he could fill Barnaby’s shoes. Pterodactyl Trev, Cairns Since when did Indonesia have a say in Australian politics? Butt out. Don’t they like the millions they receive every year? Kelly, Manunda When is Prime Minister Scott Morrison going to have a Royal Commission into fuel companies ripping consumers off? Alan, Mt Sheridan John Pratt (CP, 15/11) that “wetter wet seasons” yarn was from the Climate Council. They claim to know the weather far in the future. But 11 years ago their chief said there wouldn’t be enough rain for the rivers to run or the dams to fill. Was he wrong then? Or now? Or both? Miss T, Tolga Steve Brech (CP, 15/11). Even with consultation the plans put forward by CRC are not what you get. Like snake oil you don’t get what you pay for. Councillor Richardson. It’s been three weeks now, do you have an answer to my last email? David, Holloways Beach Grey-haired heir Prince Charles turns 70. So happy birthday to Prince Charles and enjoy your birthday cake with the happy royal family. Janelle, Woree I will never vote for a political party that supports the “Paris Agreement “. The US, China, India and others have withdrawn from it or simply ignore it. Why do we submit so easily? Robert, Earlville
