Taggart expects relatively speedy recovery
BRISBANE Roar striker Adam Taggart is confident of a better-than-expected result from scans today to determine the extent his groin injury.
The Roar are sweating on the fitness of their key marksman after he limped off in the first half of Brisbane’s 2-1 loss to Adelaide United on Friday night at Coopers Stadium. Taggart, who has scored five goals from six matches this season, looked disconsolate as he watched the rest of the game from the bench with his groin wrapped in ice.
However, Brisbane coach John Aloisi said the former Perth Glory and Newcastle Jets forward was yesterday in a more positive frame of mind.
“He’s a lot more upbeat,” Aloisi said. “He said he was feeling better and in less pain, and he’s hopeful of a good outcome from the scans.”
While Taggart is at long odds to be fit for the Roar’s clash with the Jets on Sunday at McDonald Jones Stadium, Aloisi was optimistic the Socceroos’ hopeful would not be sidelined for a lengthy period.
“It won’t be long-term. It’s nothing too serious,” the Roar mentor said.
Should Taggart be ruled out of Brisbane’s visit to Newcastle, Brazilian-Australian livewire Henrique – the scorer of the Roar’s goal against Adelaide – looms as his replacement in the Roar’s starting side.
Another option is emerging talent Dylan Wenzel-Halls.
