Residents’ pawfect creations
CATS and dogs at the Young Animal Protection Society shelter in Smithfield will be sleeping sweet after dozens of new beds were made for them.
Mercy Place Westcourt is home to many skilled residents who are dab hands at knitting, crocheting, needlework and quilting — particularly when it comes to a good cause.
The organisation’s craft group meets regularly to create individual, handmade items and recently turned their attention to a very specific project — producing handmade dog and cat beds for YAPS.
“Our craft group ladies have been working hard to make dozens of beds for homeless hounds, cats and kittens,” said Mercy Place Westcourt service manager Angela Cox.
“This is a cause that is particularly important to them as they are all huge animal lovers.
“They are a truly dedicated group of people who are incredibly kind and want to continue to do good and meaningful things in their community.
“What’s more, their frequent catch-ups to make the beds are also a great way for them to socialise.”
The dog and cat beds will be handed over to YAPS in coming weeks.
YAPS has been caring for homeless and unwanted dogs and cats at Smithfield since 1985, providing essential veterinary care, as well as desexing and microchipping animals before finding them new forever homes. MARKET: COOKTOWN:
