WESTBOUND commuters will have a place to satiate their coffee cravings in the new year.
Freo’s Car Wash Cafe owner Daniel Freebody is set to open a drive-through coffee outlet at the Manoora business on January 2.
The 27-year-old took over the business, previously The Car Wash Cafe and owned by dad Paul, a year ago and was keen to provide more convenience for customers.
“Construction is underway, we have got most of the things here, the machines are on their way,” he said.
“We are due to finish about December 20 but will launch officially on January 2.
“There’s not a lot of options for coffee on the way out, so we thought we’d step in.
“We’re also doing tradie’s deals, a pie and coffee or drink and we are going to have a wide variety of things on offer, especially with the gelati bar.
“There aren’t a lot of options for people going past so we could definitely get more people stopping by and we will probably get some regular customers stopping.”
Mr Freebody’s fiance, Tanah Gray, has been schooled up on coffee making and according to her husband-to-be, the “word is she does a really good coffee”.
He said the extension has cost about $15,000 and there would be some great coffee deals in early January.
Mr Freebody took over the Reservoir Rd business after returning to Cairns from the Sunshine Coast earlier this year.

In 2016, Paul Freebody said the car wash site would become home to the first site for a Mad Mex drive-through fast food outlet in Australia.
That announcement came a year after he put the business on the market.
