Exhibition a glimpse into town’s rich culture

-

YARRABAH State School Dance Group officially opened a new exhibition that explores the past, present and future of the Far North seaside town. Yarrabah State School principal Jason Evert said Djabu Gilga Yigan Land Sea Sky combined new art concepts with traditional practices to allow a glimpse into the town’s culture. “Yarrabah offers enormous cultural and artistic potential to Tropical North Queensland and being so close to Cairns, a world tourist destination, is perfectly positioned to capitalise on this potential,” he said.

“The school’s role in bringing together the school community, past and present, and various groups and agencies within the community to promote Yarrabah through Cairns Museum to a regional, national and international audience is a first.”

Cairns Historical Society president Clive Skarott said the exhibition was essential for sharing the community’s culture.

Cairns Museum is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
