Educators rewarded
THE children of the Cassowary Coast are in good hands.
Two local educators have been recognised for their hard work and dedication as part of this year’s Cassowary Coast Early Childhood Educator of the Year Awards.
Hosted by the Cassowary Coast Regional Council late last month, Desiree Topacio and Jasmine Sheridan took out the top awards for their excellence in providing care.
Ms Topacio from Tully won the Parent’s Choice Award for 2018, after receiving 100 per cent dedication, support and appreciation from the families in her care.
Cassowary Coast Family Day Care educational leader Janelle Beasley said Ms Topacio made every child feel comfortable and confident in expressing themselves.
“The ability to provide and safe and nurturing environment has been recognised, in conjunction with her desire to provide stimulating care through excursions and play dates,” Ms Beasley said.
“The parents of the children she services always comment on her kindness and ability to go above and beyond for everyone.”
Family Day Care educator Jasmine Sheridan from Mission Beach was the recipient for the Educators Choice Award for 2018.
“Jasmine always leads by example and is dedicated both to the families in her care as well as through the ongoing support she provides for her peers,” Ms Beasley said.
“Her use of technology to keep her parents informed and share inspiration and imagination is welcomed and appreciated.”
Ms Beasley said, although both award recipients were recognised, they were not alone in providing exceptional care throughout the Cassowary Coast in 2018. Do you have an event or issue south of the city you want to see covered? Send an email to
