End of an era for Bungalow storage shop

THE end to a 13-year run in the retail storage business comes to an end this week for Howards Storage World franchisee Marla Georgouras.

The Bungalow business on Scott St has to move all its stock as head office closes regional bricks-and-mortar stores across Queensland.

Ms Georgouras said it was with a heavy heart she painted the words “closing down” on the front windows of the store.

“We put out an email newsletter to our customer base and put it on Facebook and everyone has gone crazy,” she said.

“The customers are coming in really disappointed that we are closing.”

In all the years of selling storage-related merchandise in Cairns, Ms Georgouras said by far the strangest interaction with a customer went to a buyer who returned a used toilet brush three months after they bought it.

“They dumped it on the counter and said the handle is broken,” she said.

Four full-time staff will lose their jobs when the shutter comes down on the business for the final time.

Much of the stock has already sold but up to 50 per cent discount is on offer. Mirrors, Elfa baskets and cleaning products remain for the savvy bargain hunter.

“Everybody has just been fantastic. “I just can’t believe the response we have had,” Ms Georgouras said.

The store is at 108 Scott St.
