City Nando’s restaurant closes down
FANCY dipping your tail feathers in the tasty world of chicken barbecue?
For those with some hendurance, an egg-cellent opportunity beckons.
After 10 years in business, Nando’s on Abbott St has closed its doors after negotiations between franchisees and Nando’s Australia came to nothing.
“They had about a month’s notice – they were negotiating at the time and the franchise said no,” Peter Connolly of property managers Godwin Witten Realty said.
“They are devastated and it is a shock to the town.”
The franchisee’s lease ended when Nando’s Australia suspended access to its automated chicken ordering system.
Mr Connolly said the lessees had been exemplary tenants.
“They had a very successful business and their rent was paid up,” he said.
The site is a chance for the right people to start in the industry – cheeply.
“There are no other chicken options in the area and the premises is fully fitted out, ”Mr Connolly said.
“It can cost up to $700,000 to fit out a similar location from scratch.
“The restaurant is ready to for someone who is interested.”
The restaurant operators posted a final farewell before locking their doors one last time.
“To our valued customers, Nando’s has closed,” the note stuck to the front glass door read. “We want to thank you for your support and loyalty over the past 10 years. We will miss you.”
Up to only a week ago, the restaurant was pulling favourable reviews on TripAdvisor and Google.
Nando’s Australia has been asked for comment.
