Consistency has Brisbane in good stead

- TRAVIS MEYN

BETH Mooney’s sleepless nights are over and that spells trouble for the Brisbane’s Women’s Big Bash League opponents after the Heat rocketed into the finals.

The Heat’s opponent in this Saturday’s semi-final doubleheader in Sydney will be decided today, but Brisbane fears no one following their sizzling regular season.

The Heat have finished with a 9-5 record in a taxing season with a heavy travel schedule.

Mooney said they were ready to rumble in the finals.

“(The Thunder) have been the form team of the competition,” she said. “They’ve got some world-class players in their line-up. They’ve got great batters and bowlers.

“It was really important for group to get the win over them, especially heading into finals as it looks like we might play them.

“This is probably the first season out of the four where we’ve been so consistent.

“The key to that has been everyone contributing at different times. We haven’t relied on one player.

“It doesn’t matter who we play in the finals, we’ve got the line-up to do it.

“The fact we’ve played some really good cricket this season reflects that.”

Mooney had been critical of her form throughout the WBBL after helping Australia clinch the T20 World Cup.

But her century could not have come at a better time and has injected Mooney with a shot of confidence heading into the finals.

“It was nice to hit a few out of the screws for the first time this season,” she said.

“I don’t really want to lose anymore sleep over my batting and dreaming about my backlift … Hopefully that means the best is yet to come for me.”
