Environmental lunacy

-

MY wife and I have been swimming at Lake Eacham for more than 20 years and just recently we noticed a sign at the top of the old boat ramp warning about the presence of a freshwater crocodile in the lake.

For decades we have been telling all our interstate and overseas visitors that they should visit Lake Eacham not only because it is beautiful but also because it is lovely to swim and there are no crocodiles and no stingers.

But now there is apparently freshwater crocodile in the lake. Crocodiles never naturally populated Eacham or Barrine and it is impossible that this crocodile arrived there by itself.

Some lunatic must have put it there and then some lunatic in the government allowed it to stay there.

On top of that, even though there is a crocodile warning sign at Eacham, someone in the Department of Environment and science now states that the department has no knowledge of this crocodile.

We can only assume that the sign at the ramp was erected by environment fairies. Meanwhile there are no signs at either set of steps so if visitors, particularly tourists who generally think that all crocodiles are man eaters, enter at those steps they will have no idea of the presence of the crocodile.

If they swim out and happen to see this crocodile they may panic with potentially fatal results. The government needs to find someone who is not a politically correct environmental lunatic and get them to remove this crocodile. Deryck Thompson, Machans Beach
