Sinkholes to be fixed

A GROUP of small sinkholes in the road on Aplin St will be repaired this week if the rain stays away long enough for Cairns Regional Council crews to get to work. “Sinkholes are different to potholes because they are usually caused by movement of soil or fill material under the surface of the road that had been compacted around underground infrastructure,” the council said. “In this case, a crack in a stormwater pipe is likely to be the culprit. Our crew will repair the pipe, re-compact the earth above it and patch the roadway.”
