Irrigation Scheme
FOLLOWING the closure of Cape York Sustainable Futures, Rural Development Australia Far North Queensland and Torres Strait has entered into a contract with the Queensland State Government to deliver final Milestones 4 and 5 (the draft and final strategic business case) of the Lakeland Irrigation Scheme. Once complete, the project will provide a 195GL storage dam within the Palmer River, irrigation systems, transportation and power generation to support the expansion of irrigated agriculture within the Lakeland Irrigation Area as well as hundreds of jobs for the region.
