MILLAA MILLAA

THE heavens held on Sunday for the Elders Tablelands opening day three-ball ambrose. It’s always a popular day with the members and visitors and a good field turned up to compete for very generous and numerous prizes. Visitors from Mareeba, Atherton, Ravenshoe and Flying Fish Point had their teams, along with a strong contingent of members, to celebrate another year of upcoming golf.

The rough was the place to avoid with heavy ground and thick grass after the recent rain. Birthday boy Len Henkinson teamed up with the Hapgoods to form Triple H and they shocked Atherton visitors O’Neil, Posselt and Riggs team Rigid with three opening birdies to come in with a nett 53 and 5/6ths to claim the win. Never far from winning, Galahs (Dixon, Clifford and McPherson) claimed second with 55 and 1/2. The other teams were then Trevor’s Terriers, Millstreamers, Couttsy, Rigid, 2 x 3ers, Elders, DRS and 3G Network. With the generous sponsorship, no team left without a prize.

Lots of NTPs were achieved on most holes with teams, Flying Fish Point, Galahs, 2 x 3ers, DRS and Triple H claiming one each and Trevor’s Terriers and Rigid claiming two each. Top day of fun golf. Big thanks to Gail and brother-in-law Dean for their entertaining “FISH” shots. Jeanette Suffield and her team provided a great lunch with kitchen aid and trophy presenter Amelia Barton deserving extra praise. Elders Tablelands makes sure the start to our golfing year is always a great one and their dedication to the whole community deserves acknowledgment and praise.

In other Christmas/New Year’s events. Shed Boss Tablelands Stableford trophy: Winner Bruce Hunter, runner-up Ashley Healy; NTPs Bruce, GG and Graham. Malanda RSL/Falls Teahouse monthly medal: Winner Don McHardie on a countback from Ashley Healy. Ladies: Barb Clifford first then Caroline Soper; NTPs Ash, John Reynolds and Graham Murray.

Ash claimed the Hiedke family flag event after winning a shootout from the Silver Fox. The Ray Marsh and David Gibson won the Mungalli Creek Dairy Invitational with Warrick and GG hot on their heels for second. Dodgy drawing teamed up Happy and Ash, but they could only manage third. NTPs to Warrick and GG twice and Sols and Bruce. Longest putt to Don and Geoff.
