A TABLELANDS tourism business has added another experience to its already popular offering.

Crystal Caves manager Ghislaine Gallo commissioned Australian band Kallidad to write music for the Atherton shop after a band member visited the attraction last year.

The band is known for their trademark Day of the Dead face paint, flamenco guitars and mariachi style music.

“Following our initial meeting we continued discussions a few weeks later with the band, campside, at the Wallaby Creek Festival,” Ms Gallo said.

According to Ms Gallo, after an intense few months of correspondence, emailing ideas and music back and forth, the final recording was completed in a studio in Sydney last month and has since been introduced to the museum with visitors’ acclaim.

“While Kallidad is renowned for upbeat and highly energetic mariachi style music, they embraced the challenge of creating a peaceful and inspiring PH: 07 4033 6944 20 minute piece designed to enhance visitors’ selfguided tour of the crystal museum,” she said. “While I love the Spanish influence, I also wanted a strong Australian cultural feel … and the boys have beautifully blended a didgeridoo into the piece.” CAIRNS shoppers will be among thousands around the country affected by news menswear chain Ed Harry has gone into voluntary administration.

Representatives from the company and Lend Lease, which manages Cairns Central, where the Cairns store is located, would not comment yesterday on the decision.

A tough retail environment has been blamed for the collapse following a poor Christmas, putting close to 500 jobs at risk.

Accounting firm KPMG announced it had been appointed voluntary administrator of the retail chain. KPMG will launch a clearance sale of stock.

Ed Harry operates 87 stores across Australia and employs 498 staff. Its head office is in Adelaide.

The menswear chain was founded in 1993. It fell into voluntary administration in early 2011 with a network which covered 130 stores.

It was bought and relaunched later that year by Specialty Men’s Apparel with a network spanning 78 stores.

Specialty Men’s Apparel managing director David Clark said attempts to attract new sources of funding to revive the chain had failed. 1/472 Mulgrave Rd, Earlville QLD 4870
