Hit-and-run delay

AN outstandin­g pathologis­t report is delaying the case against a Weipa driver accused over a fatal hit and run. The body of Michael Bowden, 20, was found in the middle of Northern Ave at Weipa after he was allegedly struck and killed by a vehicle driven by Vincent Raymond Edwards on June 9, 2018 while walking home from a party. The 25-year-old was charged with driving without due care and attention, driving under the influence of liquor or a drug, failing to remain at an incident and driving on a restricted licence. The case was mentioned in the Weipa Magistrate­s Court this week and adjourned until next month as the full brief of evidence was still outstandin­g.

Hunt for croc

RANGERS are trying to capture a crocodile that has been regarded as a problem at Tully Gorge. The saltwater crocodile was declared a problem on January 9 and was targeted for removal by the Department of Environmen­t and Science’s wildlife officers. According to the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, swimming is not recommende­d in the Tully River at the Tully Gorge camping and day-use areas as saltwater crocs may be present.

Girls ’stole booze’

TWO teenage girls have been charged after they allegedly stole booze from an Earlville bottle shop and assaulted an employee. It is alleged the girls, aged 14 and 15, picked up a carton of alcohol from the cold room of the Mulgrave Rd business about 10.45pm on Wednesday and when the employee asked them to leave due to their age they pushed him and stole the carton, plus three casks of wine. They were arrested by police on Balaclava Rd soon after allegedly still in possession of some alcohol and charged with stealing and common assault.

Pair hurt in crash

A MAN has been treated at Cairns Hospital for leg injuries following a two-vehicle crash at Parramatta Park. The vehicles collided on the corner of Mulgrave Rd and Bunda St at 9.13pm on Wednesday. Two people were taken to hospital in a stable condition. One of them, a man in his 40s, had suffered a leg injury.
