To properly euthanase a cane toad, equipment selection is vital. Leave the putters, wedges and hybrids in the bag and choose your one wood. It gives the toad a sudden ending and, if your stroke suckers, it is a good idea. If you include salary increases even better. But it won’t work. School teachers these days and their helpers are subjected to such disrespect and vilification. Words and the slightest touch can call for disciplinary of the teacher/aide. It’s a wonder we have teachers.

The teachers of my day, for what they did, would be in the slammer, in the next cell to me. No one ever complained.

What the little precious ones haven’t figured out, for all their smugness, is that one day school ends. It’s a new ball game. Barry Braes, Mareeba

The article showed the uniform of a Cairns District Rugby League player and, may I say, the football that is a wellknown brand and one all clubs use. The club concerned is extremely upset and this person has not played for several years.

The crimes he has committed are despicable and, to play on the minds of young children and falsely lead them into such a vile place is no better than anything I can come up with.

Recently I attended a QRL conference and one of the sessions was on how to handle child abuse within your club. It showed how to handle a complaint and a formal complaint.

The QRL has placed welfare officers in every league and, this is for the clubs if they have any evidence that an offence is happening.

This use of distasteful photos has occurred with several sporting groups who have had convicted persons in recent years. These people have committed these crimes while not in club gear.

Maybe a photo of the person coming in or coming out of the courthouse would be more acceptable.

It places an unnecessary shadow over the club and rugby league in general. Pat Bailey, Cairns District Rugby League Secretary/Operations Manager 1986: Russia launches the Mir space
