Large site holds potential
A LARGE White Rock site has endless possibilities for its new owners.
RE/MAX Cairns agent Udo Jattke said he had received plenty of interest in the past three weeks for the 22,500sq m property at 2-26 Giffin Rd.
The prime corner site is just 7km from Cairns CBD and could be transformed into a residential development, aged care facility or a retirement village.
The position allows for easy access to the Bruce Highway and proximity to surrounding facilities such as quality schools, shopping centres, day care and public transport.
“The potential buyers I’ve spoken to have surprisingly indicated very different usages for the land, from a large multi-unit site to a group housing development and retirement village,” Mr Jattke said.
“Some have also suggested a medical centre or even reopening the site as a nursery and home improvement centre.
“Sites with so many options rarely come up for sale and that explains all the interest that has been shown.
“The inquiry on this site to date shows there is a genuine appetite for good commercial property in the Cairns market today.”
All of the development suggestions are subject to Cairns Regional Council approval.
Located in the fastest growth corridors in Cairns, Mr Jattke said the possibilities were endless.
Last year, the Queensland Government declared a State Development Area over an 856ha parcel of land at Wrights Creek, providing for major industrial growth south of the city.
The SDA would support the region’s growing intermodal and freight industry, warehousing, heavy and civil engineering, and create opportunity for biofutures, advanced manufacturing and defence industries.
A draft development scheme will be prepared, along with consideration of a second stage supporting MSF’s cogeneration plant plan – a development that could be used to power the rest of the SDA industries.
The chosen area north of Gordonvale benefited from its proximity to the Bruce Hwy and North Coast rail line.
The property at 2-26 Giffin Rd is open for inspection by appointment only and will go to auction on February 26.
