- ALICIA NALLY alicia.nally@news.com.au

A YOUNG man pulled from the wreckage of a horror crash at Tully at the weekend has died.

Tom Breen was the fourth victim of the single vehicle traffic crash on March 30.

Shortly after 1pm on Saturday, a passing motorist spotted a semi-submerged vehicle upside down in the river near Bridge 15 on Tully Gorge Rd, about 30km west of Tully.

Braydan Carter-Mathews, 19, a Cairns resident from the Burdekin, and Ryan Beckman, 19, and Shawn Woods, 18, both from Ayr, died at the scene.

Mr Breen, 19, who was a passenger, was flown to Townsville Hospital with critical injuries but died on Tuesday night.

A Gofundme page was set up yesterday and has already raised $3500 for the teenager’s family.

“Tom was one of the best people you would ever meet,” posted friend Caleb Ferrando.

“He always looked out for you before himself and I always considered him a hero.

“This is me trying to give as much back to him as he did for me.”

Initial police investigations indicate the vehicle left the road at speed and came to rest in the river.

Sergeant Scott Ezard from the Cairns Forensic Crash Unit said it was believed the vehicle may have been in the river for up to 12 hours before being discovered.

He said police were appealing for information and would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a grey Holden Astra in the Tully area on Friday night or in the early hours of Saturday morning.

If you have information for police, contact Policelink on 131 444 or provide information using the online form.
