SNARE ‘BIG’ AL

BARRA COMPETITION:

- DANIEL BATEMAN

“AL” the barra could land one lucky fisher $5000 during the Easter long weekend at Copperlode Dam.

Copperlode Fish and Kayak is hosting a barramundi fishing competition over the public holiday weekend, with Al – a 73cm long fish – giving up the major prize for the first person to hook him.

Nearly 700 barra that have been tagged in the dam will also yield anglers $100 each.

The competition is only open to participants via Copperlode Fish and Kayak, which operates exclusively on the dam due to environmental regulations restricting non-permitted watercraft.

Competition organiser Kim Andersen said the dam, which was stocked with barra about four years ago, had become a tropical oasis for the fast-growing fish.

“The dam is a confined piece of water, so anyone’s got a chance of catching Al,” he said.
