Lonely hearts struggle to meet their perfect match in Far North

LUKE Chitty has experienced both the highs and lows of love in Cairns.

The 25-year-old father of two married when he was just 21, but is now single again and on the dating scene. But despite being on the dating market, Mr Chitty told the Cairns Post it wasn’t easy finding the right women to date.

“It’s hard, because you have to be at a nightclub to meet people from the younger generation, otherwise it’s through social media, which isn’t my form of searching for women,” he said.

“It’s hard to find someone who’s into my scene, especially because I have kids.” He’s not alone. Cairns City has a ratio of 1.21 single men for every taken man in town.

He said many other people his age were meeting their partners in night clubs and out on the town, but that wasn’t where he expected to find “the one”.

He said many people would

be able to find love if there were more pubs and casual places to hang out and meet new people.

“The people that I’m looking for are not necessarily out looking. They’re not at the club, and I’m not at the club,” he said.

“There’s not really any pubs where you can meet people.

“It’s tough to find someone that is young enough for me to be interested in, but mature enough to be able to engage in normal conversation.”

Meanwhile, 60km away in Port Douglas Sammie Ross is feeling the same pressures.

She lives in the heartland of single women in the Far North.

Port Douglas has a ratio of 1.08 single women for every woman in a relationship, making it a hard competition between the ladies in town to find the man of their dreams.
