Peek behind curtains at open day

- The open day kicks off at 4pm with six hours of food and entertainment.

AN ACCESS-all-areas pass is being granted to visitors to Cairns Performing Arts Centre during a behind-the-scenes look of the $71 million facility.

On June 22, Florence St out the front of the centre will be closed to traffic, allowing seamless access to and from Munro Martin Parklands, which will host free live entertainment and food stalls.

Cairns Regional Council’s manager of cultural services, Stephen Foster, said the public were invited backstage to tour the green room, dressing rooms and control room.

“They will get to come backstage and we will have some of our technicians onstage who will be able to explain how all the magic works,” he said.

Mayor Bob Manning said the open day would be the one chance people have to truly explore the building.

“For young families especially it will be a chance to have a good look through … they will be blown away,” he said.
