Canberra a mistake
“JOBS moved from Canberra to capitals” (CP, 03/04) – sounds good, yeah? No.
Every public service job comes at the expense of two jobs in the private sector.
“Jobs removed from Canberra and not replaced” would be a far better headline.
It’s what needs to happen if we’re ever to clear our national debt.
Building Canberra was a dreadful mistake. It allowed a cronyarchy to develop; an intergenerational in-crowd of tax-eating deep-state swamp-dwellers to surround and smother our elected reps.
If early 1900s Sydney and Melbourne parochialists had just agreed to share hosting the national government, we could have saved untold billions.
Moreover, we might not have public sector “Royal Families” and their cronycapitalist mates pulling our pollie muppets’ strings and forcing them to dance against their elected tune. Peter Campion, Tolga
