FITNESS FOCUS AS CONTEST APPROACHES

-

CENTRAL Cairns Swimming coach Herbie Howard will be tasked with helping Edmonton swimmer Joel Mundie back to his best before the national aged swimming championships in Adelaide later this month. ”It’s really about keeping his fitness up, so we kept him in the gym as best we could for a couple of weeks,” Howard said. “Getting back into the water after a couple of weeks out is always tough. You take a couple of weeks off but unfortunately it takes up to four weeks to get back to where you were. “That’s the hardest thing – we’ve been trying to get his fitness back up again and flog him a little bit.” Howard said despite the uncontrollable setback of the surgery, Mundie had impressed him since returning to the water. “I’ve been away for a couple of days and I’ve come back and he seems to be back on track again. “He’s not quite hitting the times we probably would’ve if he didn’t have the surgery, but there’s still another two weeks to go, so we’ll see how he goes down in Adelaide.”
