Veterans Day contest
SIXTY-FOUR bowlers from 13 Far North clubs will compete at tomorrow’s Veterans Day at West Cairns Bowls Club. The tournament is for players aged 70 and over, with 92-yearold Brothers Edmonton member Keith McLean to be the day’s most-experienced competitor. Men’s bowls club president Maurice Hetherton said the event, organised by club member Trevor Johnston had exceeded expectations. “It’s been a terrific response from the community,” he said. “I didn’t know if we’d get that many, but they’ve all come out of the woodwork.” Players are asked to wear their club attire and arrive by 9am for the 9.30am start.
