Oh, no – M Yogo restaurant has closed

-

JAPANESE Francophile haunt M Yogo has served its last champagne oyster and closed the doors to the Cairns Pier fine dining restaurant.

An unexpected message on social media has alerted diners, to the despair of Far Northern seafood lovers.

“It has been a great pleasure and we thank everyone for the continuous support and all the friendships we’ve made,” owners Katsumi and Machiko posted.

For anyone keen to buy a Yogo-llectable, the owners are hosting a garage sale this weekend to sell off excess kitchenware. Situated on the Pier waterfront, with 180degree views of the harbour, inlet and mountains, M Yogo served classical French cuisine with a Japanese influence.

Under chef Masa, the kitchen brigade produced artistic fare specialising in meat and seafood such as wagyu tenderloin, market-fresh lobster, and roast duck breast with lentil and berry sauce.

The restaurant won many accolades, including a national award for European Restaurant of the Year in 2013.

Cairns is not bereft of Yogoness, however – the same team also runs ramen restaurant Four Cinq on Lake Street.
