AFL Cairns club Centrals Trinity Beach held a huge past players and 30-year premiership reunion at Crathern Park over the weekend. “Many former players and coaches attended from all around the country and overseas,” Bulldogs stalwart Geoff Donelly said. “More importantly, there was founding members and families of those who not only started Centrals FC but also Souths Cutters and the Cairns AFL League itself.”
Manunda down Saints
FINAL-TERM goals from Kareena White and Raiyah Cook sealed an exciting AFL Cairns women’s victory for defending premiers Manunda over Cairns Saints in Round 15. Playing-coach White booted four goals in the four-point win over Saints. Rickie Fielding was Saints’ best, kicking three majors. In other results, Cairns City Lions belted northern beaches rivals Centrals Trinity Bulldogs 82-0. Lions had eight different goal-kickers in the easy win.
Deng’s club wins title
CAIRNS Taipan Majok Deng and his club Forestville are the toast of SA’s Premier League basketball competitions after claiming both the men’s and women’s titles on Saturday night. The Eagles’ men overcame a strong Mount Gambier outfit to claim the championship with a 107-90 victory at Basketball SA Stadium on Saturday night. They backed up the women who got over the line in their grand final against Sturt, 61-58.
