Bin changes looming

HOMEOWNERS have just days to make sure they are across changes to bin collection dates across the city.

Residents in Bentley Park, Edmonton, Holloways Beach, Machans Beach, East Trinity, Glen Boughton, Gordonvale, Green Hill, Packers Camp, Wrights Creek, Smithfield, Cairns North, Manoora, Manunda and Whitfield have already received notification of the changes which will start from Monday.

Glen Boughton, Gordonvale, Green Hill, Packers Camp, Wrights Creek, Smithfield, East, Trinity, Whitfield, Smithfield, Cairns North, Manoora and Manunda residents will only have to change the weeks they put out recycling bins, while the remainder will have changes to both general waste and recycling.

A Cairns Regional Council spokesman said the changes have come about because waste contractor JJ Richards completed a review of their collection routes as part of a continuous improvement program.

As a result, the current routes were adjusted to increase the level of efficiency and service to the community and to accommodate for future growth.

“The easiest way to remember your new bin pickup times is to download the My Cairns app, which allows you to set reminders for collection nights,” the spokesman said.

“Residents who are affected by the bin collection changes have been notified directly through letters, bin stickers and via a targeted advertising campaign.

“If you are unsure if you are affected by the changes, you can also search your address online at www.cairns.qld.gov.au/binchanges.”

Recycling bins will be collected on Monday, September 9, then fortnightly from September 23 at East Trinity, Glen Boughton, Gordonvale, Green Hill, Packers Camp and Wrights Creek.

In Smithfield they will be collected on September 10, September 17, then fortnightly from October 1 and in Cairns North, Manoora, Manunda and Whitfield recycling bins will be collected on Wednesday, then September 11 and then fortnightly from September 25.

Collection days will change from Mondays to Thursdays in Bentley Park and Edmonton.

General waste will be collected on Monday and September 9, then weekly from September 12. Recycling will be collected September 9 then fortnightly from September 19.

Days will go from Tuesdays to Fridays in Machans Beach and Holloways Beach.

General waste will be collected on Tuesday then weekly general waste collection and fortnightly recycling collection from September 6.
