Will it actually take a pedestrian death in the CBD and city more broadly before we see a police ‘blitz’ to address appalling and stupid pedestrian behaviour? You can’t go through any intersection in the city without pedestrians simply meandering into traffic. The situation is not helped by selfish drivers who speed, run red lights, undertake illegal U turns and then fail to provide right of way to pedestrians when they actually use crossings correctly. So far this year I would suggest for the majority of residents, the police response has been totally underwhelming. Are our police so under resourced that community safety is not able to be addressed? Why total silence or disinterest from our local state members of parliament? Rick, Redlynch Australian cricket needs a captain. The current one cannot score runs, makes bad tactical decisions with DRS and favours fast bowlers that don’t have variety and the killer instinct. Alex Carey is a fine keeper who has shown grit and determination. Just need a captain to provide the finishing touch. GTHO, Manunda To hear that in the last 12 months that 30 per cent of convicted paedophiles did not spend one day in prison is disgusting. It is proof our overpaid bureaucrats, judicial system and politicians are the most pathetic of all time. Rex, Edmonton That’s a great idea, Glenn Ronan (CP, 03/09). The government should build more bike lanes. But where would the money come from? Car, trailers and trucks already pay for roads, so how about cyclists pay for bike lanes? For a small annual fee, say the same as trailer registration, cyclists can get the separate network they need for their own safety. Joanne, Manunda
