PEAK OF POWERS
INSIDE CAIRNS CLUB:
THE everyday problems of more than 150 guests seemed to fade away as Cairns Post Club members hung off every word of Mt Everest conqueror Michael Groom last Friday night.
Mr Groom, who in 1995 became the fourth person in the world to climb the four highest mountains without the assistance of bottled oxygen, was the latest speaker at what is becoming one of the most popular dinner events on the Cairns social calendar.
Held at the Pullman Reef Hotel Casino, the Far North proved it was a generous region by donating $4480 to Cootharinga North Queensland, a not-for-profit, charitable community organisation which supports people living with disabilities.
Cairns Post general manager Andrew Reeves said the night was another example of Cairns’s “wonderful and inspiring” community spirit.
“Michael Groom’s incredible messages of perseverance and courage in the face of great odds really resonated with everyone and aligned perfectly to our charity Cootharinga and all they do to help those whose daily life is often a struggle,” he said.
Later this year, country music singer Lee Kernaghan will headline the December 6
Cairns Post Club event. Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy, Real Housewives of Melbourne star Gina Liano and Australia’s favourite plumber, Kenny, made famous by actor Shane Jacobson, will be 2020’s outstanding line-up of speakers.
Cairns Club is a unique opportunity for Cairns’s leading businesses to network with one another.
The Cairns Post sales team is now renewing the club’s annual memberships, which are selling at a rapid rate.
