UNCERTAINT­Y relating to the security of the Cairns Show Associatio­n at the Mulgrave Rd showground is expected to be resolved at today’s Cairns Regional Council meeting. It will be recommende­d the show associatio­n be granted a trustee permit for three years. However, the associatio­n will be required to undertake a detailed long-term financial analysis to prove its ability to fund requiremen­ts under its masterplan. The decision is expected to be delegated to the chief executive.

$3m for Cairns hub

FIGURES released by the State Government show nearly $3 million has been set aside to finance the Cairns Global Tourism Hub bid. Tourism Minister Kate Jones, responding to a question on notice, published a breakdown of the cost on the Queensland Parliament website which says $3.4 million would be spent in 2020 and 2021 for new integrated resorts in Cairns and the Gold Coast. Opposition spokesman David Crisafulli said $2.9 million had been allocated for the Cairns GTH bid.

Cat off a hot tin roof

FIREFIGHTE­RS have rescued a distressed cat from on top of the old Target building at Innisfail. Firefighte­rs found the cat’s foot stuck between a drain and the roof. When firefighte­rs were ready to put the cat in a special box, it ran off.

Rail crash driver fined

POLICE have fined a 19-year-old Kewarra Beach woman following a crash involving a train at Whitfield St, Aeroglen about 8.45am on Monday. Police allege the woman drove south along the Captain Cook Hwy before turning right onto Whitfield St. It is further alleged that the flashing red stop lights for the level crossing were activated and the woman proceeded through the lights and her vehicle was hit by the train. No one was hurt.

Teen girls arrested

FOUR girls aged between 12 and 15 have been arrested after they allegedly stole bags from women in Wharf and Grafton streets about 11pm on Monday. No charges have been laid.
