INSTAGRAM TRIALLING VIDEO-MUSIC REMIX FEATURE TO RIVAL TIKTOK

Instagram has recently launched a new in-app tool, called Reels, that features some of TikTok’s best qualities.

The video editing tool will allow Instagram users to record 15-second videos, adjust the speed, set them to music and borrow the audio from other videos. These videos can then be shared to IG stories, direct messaged or posted to Instagram’s updated explore tab, Top Reels.

Mark Zuckerbeg, Facebook’s CEO, acknowledged TikTok’s success, stating that the “short-form, immersive video with browse [that is] almost like the Explore Tab on Instagram”.

Facebook has previously tried to tap into TikTok’s success with the stand-alone app, Lasso. There are also reports that Google is working on its own response to the popular viral video-music remix app.

Reels is being trialled in Brazil.

BUZZFEED LOOKING TO GROW BRANDED CONTENT BUSINESS

BuzzFeed has committed to nurturing its in-house staff and external content creators with the Creators Program.

Ex-BuzzFeed employees had complained they weren’t allowed to make personal content while employed by the company.

BuzzFeed’s Creators now allows its talent to produce non-BuzzFeed content.

The program has expanded to include non-BuzzFeed talent. From the 36 creators in the program, 31 are currently in-house.

In 2019, these creators have produced 65 branded content campaigns – making them an influencer agency to keep an eye on.
