Keep gloating to a minimum
FIRST comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a social media opportunity.
It’s hard not to be happy for Karl Stefanovic and his wife, Jasmine Yarbrough, who are reportedly expecting a baby.
All I ask is that the pair shows more respect this time around and keeps the major events and social media gloating to a minimum.
The baby news leaked out via Yarbrough’s friends’ Instagram photos from a New York baby shower. It’s been suggested they were celebrating Yarbrough’s pregnancy. Karl and Jasmine are in the Big Apple celebrating their one-year anniversary.
The happy news coincides with Karl’s return to Channel 9 as a host of the ailing Today program.
Karl and Jasmine’s big fat threeday Mexican wedding – complete with marines and seven bridesmaids in seven matching dresses – was the last straw for Nine execs.
They rightly felt Karl was on the nose with viewers for parading his new love when his ex-wife and three children were struggling with the breakup.
The fact that the network has come running back to Karl is a measure of his popularity – viewers want to like him again, and a baby is as a good a reason as any.
But Karl and Jasmine still have some work to do.
They should take into account the feelings of Karl’s three other children and his ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn.
They should lay off the triumphant social media posting.
They should make sure any events surrounding the birth are respectful and low-key. No livestream birthing. No three-day Aussie baby shower paid for and covered by the local supermarket mags. No breathless updates of every newborn gurgle, breath and blink.
The pair is yet to officially confirm the news, with some speculating that Karl will wait until he starts back at
Today in the new year.
Meanwhile, Cassandra has some news of her own, announcing that she will be working part-time at a youth outreach organisation and will continue to appear on Channel 10’s Studio 10.
It’s a sign she’s moving on, and so should we all.
