Young Chamber in ‘exciting’ transition
THE reinvigoration of Cairns Young Chamber has reached a new phase with the recruitment of three new members.
Amanda Perry, Marinka Head and Nadia Thompson have been appointed to complete the committee of eight, just in time to help launch the new 2020 strategic plan which will include exciting new events and memberships.
With a Bachelor of Business majoring in marketing, Ms Perry currently works in the tourism industry at CaPTA Group as the digital and media manager. She has lived in Cairns more than 22 years and hopes to increase awareness around CYC.
A member for six years, Ms Head is a human resource consultant with Human Resource Dynamics and said she was passionate about helping managers achieve better employment relationships, while Ms Thompson, a Veris Australia administrator, joined the committee to connect young professionals to new opportunities.
CYC chairwoman Rhiannon Simcocks said the positions were highly contended and showcased the wide variety of skilled young professionals in the region.
“We were pleased with the calibre and quantity of applicants; it proves the appetite for involvement in CYC is there. This will be a year of growth for CYC, we plan to connect young people through a different approach to previous years” she said.
“A large part of the past 12 months was spent putting in the foundations to ensure the CYC could deliver to the best of its ability and now is the time to implement those plans. It is exciting to have three new young professionals to be part of the next stage”.
Cairns Chamber of Commerce’s new CEO, Patricia O’Neill, said both groups would operate as one strong body and she was keen to explore what could be achieved collaboratively.
