LESSONS FROM LEAGUE MASTER
Melbourne Storm coach shares wisdom at event
A SPORTS star has helped kick a fundraising goal of thousands of dollars for a major charity.
Melbourne Storm coach and former Canberra Raiders player Craig Bellamy (right) entertained members of the Cairns Post Club during the club’s latest function at the Reef Hotel Casino last Friday.
The event raised more than $3000 for the Red Cross.
Widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the business, Mr Bellamy has famously never coached a losing season.
More than 150 club members heard from Mr Bellamy on the importance of learning from results.
“The things that have been working in the pre-season, you don’t really get a great idea of how it’s doing until you play games,” he said. “As the year goes on, there’s room for improvement, but you also get injuries (and) lots of variables you can’t control, so all you can do is control how you deal with it and how hard you do it.”
Cairns Post sales manager Stephanie Campbell said Mr Bellamy had provided some sage advice to the local business community.
“Craig’s perspective on the challenges and variables it takes over the years to reach the top and then keep your team at the top are actually pivotal to any business’s success, regardless of the industry,” she said.
The Cairns Post Club provides businesses throughout the region with a complete advertising, networking and entertainment package all by way of a single weekly membership subscription.
Members are given the chance to enjoy entertainment, hear from keynote speakers such as Turia Pitt, Richard Reid and The Outback Wrangler, Matt Wright, and attend specially themed events that are set to become a highlight on the Cairns events calendar.
Above all, members assist in raising much-needed funds for local charities, community groups and notfor-profit organisations.
The next Cairns Post Club guest will be barrister, entrepreneur and television personality Gina Liano on April 24.
The Italian-Australian barrister, author, entrepreneur and television personality is best known for her role in TV show The Real Housewives of Melbourne.
She will be followed at the Cairns Post Club by actor and comedian Shane Jacobson on June 12.
