WHAT THEY SAID AT CANNON PARK

-

Race 1 – QTIS 2YO Maiden Handicap (950m)

Soneymar Star for trainer Sharlee D’Avila and jockey Wanderson D’Avila.

“I had high expectations coming into today but I tried not to because it is a two-yearold race,” Sharlee said.

“As soon as he came into the mounting yard, he got up on his feet and knew what he was about. He made me cry, we bought him, named him after the kids, I train him and Wanderson rides him, it is great for the family.”

Race 2 – Benchmark 69 Handicap (1400m)

Super Mario for trainer Fred Wieland and jockey Stephen Wilson.

“He has been missing the kick, Fred reckons, so I gave him a dig out today,” Wilson said. “He done the rest. Mine was labouring just a bit, he wanted to hang in a little bit, once I gave him a couple with the stick, he hit the line strong.”

Oriental Girl for trainer Roy Chillemi and jockey Emily

Cass. “There is five of us in the horse as owners and she had been a very handy horse so far,” owner John Smith said. “That is six wins from 13 starts, if she gets a few more of those, we will be able to pay all the bills. I would like to thank Roy and Emily for their work with her also.”

Race 4 – Class 3 Handicap (950m)

Ready For Love for trainer Stephen Massingham and jockey Nathan Day.

“The horse goes good,” Massingham said.

“She might have two or three more runs here, tip her out for a little break and then have six weeks off and go again come carnival time.

“The ride was great, that is why you put a guy like Nathan on, the horse was just too good in the end.”

Race 5 – QTIS Jewel Qualifier 3YO Plate (1250m) Tiger Can for trainer Gary Farrell and jockey Scott Sheargold.

“We are proud of the horse, we bred him ourselves,”

Farrell said. “He is out of a mare we raced ourselves and we have had all of her stock.” Race 6 – Benchmark 65 Handicap (1250m)

Zero Secrets for trainer Stephen Massingham and jockey Nathan Day.

“He ran third two back and the other day Nathan gave him a sore back and I was happy to tell him that,” Massingham said. “He was three deep the trip over 1600m the other day. We galloped him last Thursday morning and he went very well.

“This horse has always shown ability but he does not try.” Race 7 – Ratings Band 0 – 55 Handicap (1400m)

She’s Nic’n Off for trainer Glenn Porter and jockey Chelsea Jokic.

“That was an excellent ride by Chelsea,” part-owner Gary Riches said.

“The horse has had four or five starts and always been around the mark.”
