Thursday social bowls saw 26 bowlers take the green in very humid conditions. Winners were- S. DellaPossa,S. Pagano and T. Dorrington. Runners-up were- S. Howe, J. Morrison, G. Edgerton and T. Kerrigan. Saturday bowls jackpot standsat $500, so come on down for a social game. Visitors most welcome. Sunday morning saw a very close game of C-grade club singlesplayed with S. Clark defeating J. Patterson 25 – 23 after 31 ends in very hot conditions. There are club games on the noticeboard to be played by the 15th March. Please organise your games and get bowling. The club telephone lines were taken outa fortnight ago by a storm. Sorry for any inconvenience in registering your name for games. Just turn up and register.

Saturday: A great roll up for Jackpot Bowls last Saturday. On rink 4, at +1 (20 to 19) a win to Randal Edwards & Peter Worley over Bob Hando & Gordon Henderson. On rink 3, at +4 (20 to 16) a win to Billy Smith, Doug Pitt & Graham Marsh over Peter Gorsuch, Barney Kearney and Tony Pisot. On rink 7, and the winners for the day at +25 (35 to 10) David White, Tony Brlyack & New Fletcher over Ted Holmes, Alistair Douglas & Peter Williamson. Club Championship games continued with two games of pairs played on Saturday. On rink 5, Terry Richards & John Fleming had a win over Col Maxted & Daryl Hoskins 20 to 15 and on rink 6, Kiwi & Greg McLean had a win over John Arnold & Charlie Toohey 25 to 19. In the Mens A Grade Singles, played on Sunday, a win to Dave Blain over Les Phillips 25 to 13 and in the Mens B Grade Singles a win to Terry Richards over Peter Worley 25 to 18. This Sunday (15th), in the Club Championship, 2 games of Handicap Singles and 1 game in the B Grade Singles scheduled to be played. In the Handicap Singles Les Phillips (+5) to play Tony Kessler (-6) and Terry Richards (-2) to play Bob Hando (-5). And in the B Grade Singles, Daryl Hoskins to play John Anderson. Friday: night barefoot bowls, eight teams from the Cassowary Regional Council came for a fun night of bowls and BBQ. There were some great hidden talents waiting to be discovered in teams: Bowling Stones, Young & Restless, Bowl Breaker, Cracker Jack, Guacabowly, A-Team, The Rollins and Incredibowls. Every Friday night we have barefoot bowls and BBQ. We would like to invite the teams back as well anyone who like to find out what lawn bowls is all about, no experience necessary, bowls are provided. Thelma Moss Shield: 48 TLBA (Tablelands Ladies Bowls Association) and CLBA (Cairns Ladies Bowls Association) bowlers played in the Thelma Moss Shield at Mossman Bowls Club on Tuesday March 3. Lunch was provided by the Mossman Bowls Club. At the end of the day, both teams had 9 wins. TLBA finished with 222 points however CLBA came out winners on the day with 228 points.

Eighteen players enjoyed their game of social mixed bowls last Monday afternoon. We welcomed another new member to our club as well. The winners at the end of the day were Cheryl Noakes, Norma Wright and Jim Hope. Our club welcomes all social bowlers from any registered club to join us at 1.15pm when cards are drawn in preparation for the 1.30pm start of three hours of noncompetitive bowls. Our selector will take names of players and visitors on mobile 0409624623 until 1.00pm. Names can also be recorded on the sheet available at West Cairns Bowls Club. We request that first time players also advise their preferred positions and provide a mobile phone contact number to assist with the selection. The green is covered and electrically lit when necessary so the changeable weather conditions at this time of year are not a problem. Afternoon tea is also provided as part of the green fee charged.

The next Committee Meeting is due to be held at 11.30am on Monday 16th March. All the committee is requested to attend.
