Explosion cuts power
POWER was cut to about 1800 homes on the northern beaches with police onsite after a vital piece of equipment went up in flames.
Kewarra Beach resident Danica Collins was enjoying a quiet morning at her Cottesloe Drive home when the drama happened yesterday.
“We were sitting out the front having a coffee and the kids playing on our playground 20m away,” she said. “It was the loudest bang.” A Queensland Police spokesman said authorities were called to Kewarra Beach with reports of an Ergon pillar catching fire.
Nobody was hurt in the incident. Power was restored to most homes by the afternoon.
