How to spend billions
SO, we have billions of dollars to spend.
While this money is hanging in the balance, we have been given the opportunity to approve subsidising an electric motor vehicle industry “made in Australia”.
The outcome of the lockdown proved that the reduction in oil driven vehicles on our roads gave us cleaner air to breathe but also helped to reduce carbon dioxide. Climate change is a more serious problem for the world and needs action sooner rather than later. The Federal Government will rely on private enterprise to make the change to electric vehicles. This will not work because it will not happen quick enough. To start with we could design and manufacture an economical, basic family utility motor car for everyday transport to work, school, shopping etc.
Households may have more than one car so at least one other car in the family could be electric. If we want change, we must recognise that private transport is part of our economy and the environment and needs government subsidies, not just private enterprise.
We need to work together.
