Wait, what? Former fire chiefs demand action on climate change (CP, 25/05)? What do the current fire chiefs want? Will the former fire chiefs face questions over why there was a massive build-up of forest fuels while they were fire chiefs? Blaming non-existent climate change for the fires that resulted from that fuel build-up is kind of convenient, isn’t it? Woz, Parramatta Park

Pressure is mounting on the Premier to introduce a northern travel bubble (CP, 25/05). Our problem is our Premier lives in a bubble and has done her whole life. She has shown she has zero understanding of how free-market capitalist democracies work. Her solution has been far worse than the problem. At the first hint of trouble she abandoned proper leadership and defaulted to slavish obeisance to unelected and unaccountable wrongologists. She’s no Maggie Thatcher. Higgs, Tolga

I Hope Valentine Holmes used the break in the NRL to learn how to defend a fullback for the Cowboys. What he showed in the two games so far was disappointing.

GTHO, Manunda (CP, 23/05). Have to say I disagree with George Mansford’s political opinions and assumptions and fully support the government’s professional advice. A return to lockdown is at stake in their decisions if they get it wrong and they can be held accountable.

Lenore Evans (CP, 25/05). Did you know that if we all had electric cars (not trucks, buses, etc) we would need twice as many electricity generators? Given that renewables provide nothing on cold nights that means at least 10 new coal-fired power stations. Most houses and substations would also require very expensive wiring upgrades. Electric cars are promoted by rent-seekers and by people with no idea how the electricity grid works.

Tony Bayview. Keep the Ruby Princess cases in NSW. If NSW border remains shut for now, Dr Young can continue easing restrictions for us within the state, without risking importing a second wave from NSW.

Had to smile at yesterday’s Word on the Street. Obviously none of your respondents have been to Armidale in winter. Armidale is the highest city in Australia and often has minimums at -7, but add the windchill factor that comes roaring off the Ebor plateau, you can take another 10 off that. So glad I now live in Cairns and those childhood memories are a thing of the past.
