World kudos for yacht
`Amazing’ crew nominated for top award Bakery’s doing bit for cancer
CAIRNS continues to shine as a superyacht hub after the crew of a locally-based motor yacht was nominated for an international award.
The crew of My Spirit, a member of Super Yacht Group Great Barrier Reef, has been nominated for the International ACREW Crew Awards.
“The MaritimeMT 2020 Crew Awards have been developed to reward crew who have proven themselves to be the very best at their job,” said
Super Yacht Group Great Barrier Reef manager and ex-superyacht purser Joanne Drake.
“The awards will be both a personal achievement and an industry-wide recognition of professional excellence.
“Spirit have always been a wonderfully-accommodating supporter of the Super Yacht Group Great Barrier Reef’s annual familiarisation tours of the Great Barrier Reef region and have certainly played a huge element in its success.”
“As projected, many famil guests have followed to book trips with the beautiful vessel post-attendance and have absolutely raved about the amazingly-attentive service provided by the crew.
“It’s all about the details and these high-end travellers notice these succinct service technicalities and appreciate them ten-fold,” Ms Drake said.
Super Yacht Group chairman Carrie Carter said the Great Barrier Reef region offered world-class superyacht charters, experienced crew and unsurpassed destinations for the discerning traveller.
“All of this criteria as well as being an essential safe and secure port, adds up to providing an exceptional experience.
“What sets Spirit apart from other vessels is her crew’s experience, local knowledge and attention to detail.”
The 2020 MaritimeMT Crew Awards will take place in the World Trade Center in
Barcelona on October 10.
Motor Yacht My Spirit has been nominated for the Best Charter Yacht Crew Award, Captain (master 3000 GT) Crew Award, Chef Crew Award and Chief Stew Award.

JACKLEY’S Bakehouse is doing what it does best – baking and delivering delicious goods to the Cairns community to raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland.
Bakery owners Dale and Bec Jackley said they were excited to be a part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, raising funds for cancer research, prevention and support
“Since COVID-19, we’ve had to change our business to be largely delivery-based, which enables us to help locals throw their own morning tea,” Mr Jackley said.
Under COVID-19 restrictions, the traditional morning tea has been transformed into a virtual catch-up with loved ones and colleagues.
Cancer Council Queensland chief executive officer Chris McMillan said Jackley’s Bakehouse was an example of the Queensland spirit.
“It is wonderful to have the support of businesses during this difficult time,” Ms McMillan said.
