Return to field top priority

- MATTHEW MCINERNEY

BROTHERS football manager Tim Rumford isn’t too fussed on how it happens; he just wants to see the Fish get back on the paddock.

The club is one of three Cairns District Rugby League sides who jumped into the action immediately after the season was cancelled last month.

Brothers, Tully and Innisfail held informal talks about how they could get back on the field if and when restrictions eased.

Innisfail bowed out to be replaced by Ivanhoes, while the Northern Pride have also expressed interest in participating after the cancellation of the four statewide competitions.

A month on from the CDRL’s decision and Rumford said Brothers were still driven to provide some form of rugby league this year for players, who have kept training, and supporters.

“If the door is open (for a competition), there’s been time to reassess the decision, and some of the clubs might find they’re able to play,” he said.

“We didn’t want to disrespect the other clubs or the CDRL. Providing rugby league is what we’re all about.”

The CDRL will hold a meeting on Monday night. *Offer is available 01/07/2020 - 28/07/2020 (inclusive) while stocks last.
