On other matters
Thank you to our local police for an increased presence on the roads, especially around the Red Beret intersection, over the last week. It’s been noticed. We need a sustained high profile police presence out here to curb appalling, selfish and dangerous driver behaviour. The point of speed limits and stop signs is lost without enforcement. Drivers literally pushing pedestrians off crossings and ignoring flashing lights at the rail crossing is a tragedy in the making. So thank you and please keep it up.

Interesting that everyone wants to blame Vic Premier for COVID outbreak. He can’t legislate against stupidity. These cretins intentionally ignoring protocols and restrictions should be tried for manslaughter.

We want to see issues discussed in CP, but we want to hear both sides. Good to see Panahi finally managed an op-ed without LNP propaganda. See it is possible!

Ric, Brinsmead; we can only thank our lucky stars you had no say in the decision making with regard to securing Queensland borders.

“ScoMo cancels parliament because corona.” I am livid. Absolutely outraged. Representative government is functionally extinct. Why aren’t our locked-out representatives picketing outside Parliament House, protesting to be let back in? Ric, Brinsmead
Pubs and clubs in QLD that flout the COVID-19 safety protocols should be shutdown and fined not given warnings. With NSW now in a COVID-19 crisis we need to take seriously the fact that we could be next. Another lockdown is not what we want, either local or statewide. We saw what can happen when one person can cause a COVID cluster. We’ve all done the right thing to get to where we are. Let’s not get complacent and think this fight is over. Remember Cairns we are a tourist destination as long as we remain COVID-19 safe. Heavy fines and closure for those who break the rules. Harsh but for the right reasons.

Re: Vigil for refugees, (CP, 18/07) are you sure they’re refugees? Refugees normally stop in the first safe country so they can get home when safe to do so. People that fly across many safe countries to take a boat to Australia are more likely to be queue-jumping country-shoppers. Do they really need a vigil?
