Surgery for Simmons

-

BEN Simmons is headed back to the operating room.

The 76ers star will undergo surgery to remove a loose body from his left knee.

He will leave the NBA’s bubble for the procedure and the 76ers will have to head to the playoffs without him.

The 24-year-old had suffered a subluxation of the patella in Wednesday’s game against the Wizards, though he reportedly did not do any ligament damage. The 76ers had declared him out indefinitely on Thursday and now surgery is all but certain to knock Simmons out for the postseason — barring a deep playoff run.

Aussie’s dark day

AN EVEN-PAR round of 70 has seen Australian Jason Day slip out of contention after the third round of the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.

After strong showings in the first two days, Day has fallen back to be tied for seventh, three strokes off the lead.

Dustin Johnson made eight birdies to shoot a five-under-par 65 and grab a one-shot lead. Johnson had four birdies on the front nine, then birdied three of his final five holes to reach nineunder 201 at the TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.

Lillard cops a clip

A BITTER feud between Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard and Los Angeles Clippers duo Paul George and Patrick Beverley reared its head on court on Saturday, continued into postgame interviews and eventually made its way onto Instagram. Lillard missed two crucial freethrows late in the Trail Blazers’ loss to the Clippers, and the LA bench did not hold back in its celebrations.

With three seconds to go, Beverley was seen waving Lillard goodbye, with the Trail Blazers now outside the playoff spots.

Dashing Daniel

DANIEL Ricciardo put in another strong showing at Silverstone as he qualified in fifth for the 70th anniversary Grand Prix.

The Australian has shown good pace all weekend and only just missed out on the second row of the grid, despite putting in his time on intermediate tires, rather than the softs that the most of the pack chose. That means he will start on mediums, meaning he should be able to go for longer than his rivals without pitting. Ricciardo was delighted, having finished fifth last week.
