Cafe cuts its teeth in quiet period

-

CAIRNS’ newest corporate cafe aims to wow tradies and office workers with quick, fresh meals and a range of homemade sodas using locally grown produce.

Lukure Caff is the brainchild of hospitality veteran Luke Andersen.

“Day one was Monday and it went well,” Mr Andersen said.

“I don’t expect it to be too busy this time of year given most of the staff and tradies are off for Christmas.

“It will give us time to bed down our processes.”

The Draper Street cafe offers coffee from Five Senses, with blends rotating regularly.

“They are Australian roasters based in Melbourne and Perth,” Mr Andersen said.

But the beverage ace-inthe-hole will be Lukure’s home-made sodas.

“We have a tropical, ginger ale and a lemon, lime and bitters,” Mr Andersen said.

“I didn’t w want to sell soft drinks in the shop, so we came up with home-made sodas using fresh local produce from Rusty’s Markets.

“They are refreshing, simple to prepare and last forever.”

A variety of house-made smoothies will also rotate regularly through the kitchen.

The menu is a selection of “grab and go” meals, vibrant salads and paninis for workers who had limited time to spare on a sit-down lunch.

“We’ll also start looking at breakfast options like panna cottas and breakfast buns for people who had forgotten to eat when they had their morning coffee,” Mr Andersen said.

Lukure Caff is located at 131-145 Draper Street, the Cairns Home Improvement Centre and is open Monday to Friday, 6.30am-2pm and Saturday 7am -1pm.
