HELD TO ACCOUNT

-

A public company is obligated to undertake a forensic review of its performance each year and reflect on what has worked and where it can improve in the future to the benefit of its shareholders. This analysis will be included in the annual report.

Queensland government departments (businesses) should also be obliged to undertake an annual review of their performances to ensure the public (shareholders) are satisfied with its previous years effort’s. An annual review is even more important now that terms are four years.

If a review of the Department of Youth Justice was carried out in an unbiased and thoroughly independent way, it would surely identify the glaring deficiencies, mediocre responses and substandard context of the balance between public expectations and the departments ‘alleged’ goals and strategies. Most people, especially victims of youth crime, are appalled at the total lack of respect for the law, police and fellow citizens not to mention the zero consequences or penalties applied for their appalling acts of brazen and callous public disregard.

Surely only the most out of touch, blinkered, narrow-minded and woke sections of our community would be happy with the present dreadful state of public confidence towards socially acceptable civil expectations. When was the last review undertaken and what were the outcomes? Surely changing “may” to “must” in relation to the bail act does not qualify as a forensic review. This is another ‘stolen generation’ in the making.
