MILLAA MILLAA

Our wonderful sponsor Sunday, July 18, was Innisfail BCF and manager Shane Bradley could not have picked more perfect weather for the Innisfail BCF 3 ball Medley Ambrose, with 36 players teamed up to try for their share of the big array of spoils available.

There were a few visitors and I apologise for not noting them all, however it was great to see Warren and Joey Afflick back to pay us a visit. Regrettably, Warren had an accident with a wayward ball and couldn’t stay to socialise at the end of play.

Back to the match, as usual competition was fierce but the clear winners with 58 strokes was the team of Guy and Dillan Williams with David Welch making up the third member. With 59 5/6 strokes, second place went to Ash Healy, Graham Suffield and Alan (‘Happy’) Hapgood, third on 61 1/6 strokes was Paul Foster, Gary Lobenwein and Mark Twomey. I knew it would not be possible to get through without a countback and with 4th and 5th both on 62 1/3 strokes one was needed to give 4th to Don McHardie, Ross Ellen and Bruce Hunter, with Justin Cifuentes, Lenny Hankinson and Ray Marsh taking 5th. Only 1/6 of a stroke behind them in 6th was Warrick and Aaron Howarth with Grant Miller making up the third man. Nearest to the pins went to Tony Latimore with partners Warren and Joey Afflick, 5/14 went to the team of David Gibson, Greg Taylor and Bob Collyer, again it was the second shot nearest expert Warrick Howarth to clinch it on 3/12 for his team of son Aaron and brother Grant.

There were enough tickets sold for five draws and the following each picked up $10 – David Welch, Graham Suffield, Sol Richard Sullivan, Dillan Williams and Wayne Crowley – however the big $130 members draw went to Guy Williams, well done mate. Next week is the Club Foursomes Championships sponsored by Golf World Cairns. The following week is the first round of the Tableland Challenge at Ravenshoe. Just News: Nothing special at the July meeting except that the old mower is getting a bit of work done before we put it up for sale.

RAVENSHOE

My golf spies have been away so no results to report this week. Next Sunday will be an 18 hole Bogey event. Match play will be postponed till those who are away come back from their sojourns. We haven’t played a Bogey for a while but someone will be on hand to show you how to score this game. Just a reminder to nominate your team for the Tableland Challenge to be held on August 1. Sign in at 9 for a 9.30 Shotgun start. Friday night is social night again so...
