App needs mandate to work

- RACHAEL ROSEL

THE STATE government is working to integrate vaccine status into the Check-In Qld app, but businesses say it won’t be effective without a mandate in place.

Following a national cabinet decision in September, work is under way to develop and implement vaccination statuses into the state’s Check In app, according to a spokeswoman for the Premier.

In states where it’s already been implemented, having a vaccination status in the app has helped regulate vaccine mandated businesses.

But yesterday, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk clarified that despite the confusion, there was no second roadmap coming for Queensland businesses to inform them on whether or not they needed to become fully vaccinated.

CEO of Restaurant and Catering Industry Association, Wes Lambert called the lack of direction by the government “unfair”.

“We will continue to call the Queensland government to issue public health orders around vaccine mandates and QR code check ins,” he said.
