WAREHAM RUPTURES ACL

-

GEORGIA Wareham’s hopes of playing in the coming Ashes series and Women’s World Cup are all but over after scans confirmed she had ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament during the Melbourne Renegades’ WBBL match against Adelaide Strikers at Blundstone Arena.

The injury also rules the 22-year-old out of the WBBL.

Given it takes several months to recover from ACL injuries, her chances of playing in the Ashes series in January and February, as well as the World Cup in March and April, are remote.

The severity of the injury was confirmed by Australian team doctor Pip Inge, who said the ACL tear occurred in the same left knee that Wareham had previously injured.

“She had an ACL rupture on the same knee at age of 14 while playing AFL, which was reconstructed using a synthetic (LARS) ligament,” Inge said.
