TASTE FOR FASHION REWARDED

- ARUN SINGH MANN

A NICHE Far Northern race wear maker is hoping to go one better this year in an annual emerging designer competition.

Cairns’ dressmaker Luisa Manea has again made the top 10 finalists in the Myer Fashions on your Front Lawn Emerging Designer category, after achieving the feat last year.

The top 10 will eventually be short-listed into a top three, before the winner is announced at the Melbourne Cup.

The experienced bridal gown maker said the dress which earned her top 10 honours was called Floribunda, with flori meaning flower and bunda meaning plentiful.

“The main body was embossed with beautiful, engraved gold scrolled lettering on a chipped black painted body,” Ms Manea said.

“Accessorised with cute dainty ornate carved wooden oak draws. I can still smell the pungent oil-soaked wood.”

Ms Manea said she was confident she could make the top three, because she had “ticked all the boxes”, but regardless, would be happy with her effort.

“It’s a national competition, so to make the top 10 twice is amazing.”
